PRESS RELEASE 21/04/2006

During the Easter weekend, the three Gozo Channel vessels carried a record number of 46,284 passengers and 11,232 vehicles between Malta and Gozo in the four days between Thursday and Sunday, a slight increase over the 45,676 and 10,931 passengers and vehicles carried last Easter.
Gozo Channel Co Ltd provided a shuttle service during peak times, ensuring that the waiting time for its commuters was reduced to the minimum possible. During this weekend, the company started using the new Marshalling area, allowing the vehicles to be managed better.
Another heavy weekend is expected at the end of the month, due to the 1st of May falling on a Monday. As is the case on such occasions, the Company will be utilising its resources as it has done over Easter, and will be performing such extra trips as necessary to provide an efficient service.
Furthermore, as a continuation of its maintenance program and upkeep of its vessels, one of the Company’s ships will be out of service between Tuesday 25th April and Thursday 27th April. As done in previous similar occasions, the 13:00 and 14:00 hour trips from both Mgarr and Cirkewwa will be substituted by the 12:45, 13:30 and 14:15 hours trips, as normally performed on Fridays and the eve of Public Holidays. In this way, our customers will be assured of a safe and reliable service.
